I just want a simple web design...
When most people make a statement similar to “I just want a simple web design”, they are usually thinking about a very large and complicated website that might cost an arm and a leg to build. They may or may not want that, but what they do want is to display a great image of their business or organization on the web, especially since there are almost 2 billion people surfing the web today. The last thing you want to do is present your company in an undesirable way to 2 billion people!
Having a very clean, nice, dynamic website is not a hard thing to accomplish in today’s web design environment. The right web designer can do wonders with the current technology that is available. I use the term “online business” these days more than I use the term “website”. The world has changed dramatically. You can put your business online and change your destiny forever if you do it right. And doing it right is a huge topic when it comes to web design and taking your business online! That’s why you need someone that knows what they are doing in all aspects of website design and internet marketing. Web design is just a broad term these days. A lot of web designers are great artists, some are great coders, few are great at SEO and even less are great at Internet Marketing (IM); however, IM and SEO are more important and more powerful than the rest.
If a business owner just wants a cheap web design, then he probably has the wrong idea about the web. Anything under $1,000 for a web design and you are not getting much. A cheap website is a cheap website, and a cheap website is a waste of money. You can get a car for $50, but do you really want a $50 car? You can buy a home for $5,000, but would you want to live in it? Price is an issue when what you’re paying for has no value. The problem with a cheap website is that it will never be found in search engine rankings. Unless the business owner is an SEO expert or IM expert, there is no way the site will have enough work done to it for it to be in the line of web traffic. It takes an enormous amount of knowledge and experience to perform proper SEO and even more knowledge and experience to be decent at internet marketing.
I’ll still design “simple” websites for clients if they have their heart set on one. As a web designer you have to be careful because the “simple” website that the client requested may not get the results the client was looking for.
When people mention that they want a “simple website design”, what they are really saying is that they want an “inexpensive website design” which is understandable in today’s economy. You definitely can have a very nice, attractive and pleasing web design for a very reasonable amount of money. For $1,000 to $3,000, you can expect a good-looking, clean and dynamic web design that will be expandable and easy to update for years to come.
The bottom line is you need to work with and trust your designer. Your web designer has your best interests at heart and would never steer you wrong. After all, why would I or any web designer put their name on a bad design?
